Maya Arulpragasam was born in Hounslow, London England. When she was 6 months old, her family moved back to their homeland, Sri Lanka. At 8 years old, Maya moved back to London, where she and her family were housed as refugees from the civil unrest in their native region. Maya learned proper English at school and slang at home by listening to NWA and Public Enemy on the radio.

In 2000, Maya was encouraged by electro-clash icon Peaches to make music on a Roland MC-505 Groovebox and she pulled lyrics from journals she had written during a 4 month trip to the Caribbean island of St. Vincent to craft her first songs. In 2005, she released Arular, and reached the mainstream charts in Europe and the U.K. It was considered as much a political statement as a musical one, as it referenced the Tamil Tigers.

In 2007, Kala was released. Like Arular, it received unanimous international critical praise. It topped multiple “Best of the Year” lists in publications around the world with its deft mixture of politics, social consciousness, and inimitable genre-blending.

On /\/\ /\ Y /\, M.I.A. continues her musical exploration into new territory including rock, dubstep and more. She is not a typical artist and /\/\ /\ Y /\ pushes the envelope with controversial sounds, lyrics, and imagery. M.I.A is many things — a visual-artist, musician, revolutionary, and style-icon–and just when you think you have /\/\ /\ Y /\ pegged, it will surprise you.

/\/\ /\ Y /\, features production by Rusko, Blaqstarr, Switch, Diplo, Sugu, John Hill, Derek Miller and M.I.A.
I must say I have enjoyed each of their first two albums. But "Maya" is a dramatic improvement in production-wise, and song structure. This album to me sounds much fuller and more to deal with diversity. If the previous albums were more of a low-end Dance Hall to hear. I would also set "Maya" Timbaland and Missy Elliot in the ball park with a small mixed Nelly Furtado and this is an honor. Highlights on this album are "Stepping Up, Tell xxxo, Teqkilla me because InternetConnection, What Iz and Iz. "What improvements are certainly from their two previous efforts. MAYA really proves that is growing and artists on the road to a much wider audience. The album is definitely a player long and keeps your interest from track to track. Experimental Hard Beats with a touch of electronics for the most part, what are these efforts. Check it out you will not be disappointed if you are a fan and a connoisseur of electronic music. As a Tokio Hotel fan, I was very excited for the release of this DVD, and was looking forward to ordering it from Amazon UK! At first, their prices were reasonable, around £15, if I recall correctly. I was allowed to buy it, and then by the time it came to ordering (18th July), the price had risen to an unreasonable £27.99, and the price wasn’t any lower for the live CD.

I resigned myself to being unable to buy the DVD (I was planning to buy it as a treat for myself), and then people started talking about other websites, and I remembered that Amazon USA would ship to me in the UK!
I had a look, and at .99, the DVD/CD combo was a snip from Amazon USA! After some quick calculations, I realised, to my great delight, that the DVD/CD would be exempt from import charges!
I didn’t hesitate to order, but I was rather dismayed with the estimated arrival date: August 13th – September 2nd.
But not to worry! At least I would have it. I spent .47 in total, which by today’s (20th August) currency rates is a miniscule £12.52! And that INCLUDED the shipping costs!

The very day before my DVD arrived, 10 days were tacked on to the estimated arrival date, August 23rd – September 12th. (I was too excited to NOT look everyday!)
And then when I woke up, the next morning, I couldn’t believe my ears when my mum said she’d SIGNED FOR MY DVD!
My shock was as great as my excitement, because of the estimated delivery date.
It was just a week after the release date, and I had the DVD.
The DVD is absolutely amazing, Tokio Hotel are simply amazing performing live, but most of all, I was impressed by the service that Amazon USA when Amazon UK fell short.
My belief is that the prices were so high, because Amazon UK were paying the import charges, and therefore, the price was higher.
When in actual fact, it was cheaper for us to order from Amazon USA, so thank-you Amazon USA!

This is one of my favorite movies, and keep you laughing until the end. Tommy tries to keep his father Brake Company, and the adventures continue to keep trying, you will laugh for hours. This film is to be seen again and again.

The musical souls of two nations, Ireland and Mexico, are movingly brought to life in San Patricio, the latest international collaboration by six-time Grammy winners The Chieftains – the leading practitioners of Irish traditional music for the past four decades. The album features multi-instrumentalist, singer and composer Ry Cooder, another multiple-Grammy winner, who co-produced with The Chieftains’ Paddy Moloney. It tells the nearly forgotten story of the brave San Patricio battalion – a downtrodden group of Irish immigrant conscripts who deserted the U.S. Army in 1846 to fight on the Mexican side against the invading Yankees in the Mexican-American War (1846-1848). This Deluxe Edition CD/DVD features The Making Of San Patricio documentary, three full song videos from the recording sessions (with Los Tigres Del Norte, Chavela Vargas, and Lila Downs), and a special commemorative poster.
I appreciate the efforts of the guests from the CD version was to explain and clarify the important elements of the historical context. I have some books on the war, after the film "One Man's Hero. The Rogue's March: John Riley and the St. Patrick Battalion, 1846/48 (The Warriors), I love the Chiefs and Mexican folk music, so I knew I would like the music . I ordered the CD / DVD combo. I absolutely recommend this to anyone on the appointment of the CD. becauseViewing videos short and watched the musicians to mix and play and dance together is a touch surpringly joy to watch. It adds an extra depth of understanding of the listening experience. The dollar is worth more in my humble opinion. thanks all.

I smiled when I learned that George Winston work includes tributes to artists as diverse as Vince Guaraldi and Doors. For those of us who are too extravagant and a little 'c catholic tastes, there's something liberating to know that an artist that critics love Pigeonhold (such as "New Age", in George's case) is much more open No. Sager and musically more open, you might think. I say, what you love, Georgie Boy, and more power to ya.

Knoware those in which the words "Windham Hill" encourage a flood of gag. I am so happy that I did not worry about these things (if it ever was). George Winston is a talented pianist whose arrangements are very inventive. How much of the early Windham Hill released, which is a meditation, for the most part, and not open to Edgy (which is why the Hipper-than-you can set that explains the contempt). But is it right for the season and it is right for the season almost all(E 'in February, and I'm still playing it).

Winston Bell as tones can be as Ethereal, and disturbing, like Philip Glass in his accessible. There are moments here that remind me of the soundtrack of glass' for hours (though not quite so repetitive), perhaps one could say that there is some bite in all that cold winter after all.

A friend told me that if Radiohead The Bends was their revolvers, then click "OK Computer is the time their Sgt Pepper's. I tend to disagree with your analogy, what I like" The Bends ", the amazing range of emotional" OK Computer "completely surprised me when I first heard in 1997. It 'was when I was a couple of friends to record companies, and a dear lady at the Capitol (hello Leslie M, wherever you are today) I have a three song sampler that becausethey new how much I like Radiohead.

The sampler includes "Karma Police", "Paranoid Android" and "No Surprises". Before joining the CD, I was telling people this, that this is the most incredible thing I'd heard all year. Until the full CD in my player for a couple of weeks ago I was thinking it was the best album of the year. Thom Yorke had the modern themes of alienation, he studied so ably on "gangs" and are matched with the music that has slowed down and weakenedhaunting textures and electronics. Guitarist Johnny Greenwood are almost nonexistent, unless sudden relegated to "campaign." In most cases, is the voice of York, who is the main instrument, weaving in and out of the songs is a breath ( "Exit Music For A Film") or his scream rock ( "Lucky").

Even more important, "OK Computer" is an album that (like "Sgt Pepper") collects the songs that invoke the theme together. While "Karma Police" and "No Surprises" aresomething like braces radio airplay, this is listening to a CD, which works as a whole. I know there is a general consensus that this is a concept album – you can see how many plane crashes, wrecked cars and machinery to be mentioned – is still due, that I have, which usually dour lyrically Yorke. Was in my ears, the concept comes with the post-Pink Floyd meets the speed of sound quilting for the modern age. OK Computer, Radiohead have managed to more than anyone before or since.
