Rattle and Hum "has some great individual songs, but it fits so well together as a whole. The album is basically a collection of pieces of new songs, live tracks, out the door, and coverage. As such it is really one or the other, not a live album, is not a greatest hits, but not a strong artistic statement is not new. What looks like a confused and cautious step forward is a band that seems to be overwhelmed by their sudden superstar.
"Helter Skelter" clumsy intro by Bono, but a good, energetic version of the song.
"Van Diemen's Land poignant, reflective song sung by The Edge. A good song, but it seems out of placebetween "Helter Skelter" and "Desire."
"Desire" Ode to hand Bo Diddley and even more clearly a single. The highlight is the out-of-Nowhere harmonic explosion towards the end.
Hawkmoon ` ': filled with brooding, intense song that builds slowly in front of a passionate climax. Perhaps it goes a bit 'too long, but the payoff is worth it.
"All Along The Watchtower" take-it-or-leave-it to cover. Bono stuff the text of the song or repeat the second verse of that?
`IStill Have not Found What I'm Looking For ': excellent interpretation of the gospel hit single. One of the highlights of the disc.
"Silver and Gold" (starts with a short clip from "Freedom for my people"): this is a live version of U2 excellent anti-apartheid anthem. Difficult and squeaky voice.
"Pride": another good cut alive. Bono foment public in a call-and-answer shows why U2 were a great live band.
"Angel of Harlem":lyrical tribute to Billie Holliday. A soulful, Horn-driven number and other individual apparent.
"Rescue Me Love ': working well with Dylan, but not one of the best songs here.
Article "When Love Comes To: blues Town 'influenced duet with BB King. King's fit perfectly to the song, there are a very good job on guitar" Lucille. "
"Heartland": there seems to be a "take Joshua Tree" outside. Quite nice.
"God Part II": Although this Rockerseems to work his sights on U2 90's, I always thought that the song is slow and forced. It's never a good idea to explicitly create the continuation for a song classic.
"Bullet the Blue Sky (short intro to" Star Spangled Banner "): the improvement better than the album version, the additional texts Bono really up the last verse of the song more tension before the final version.
"All I Want Is You ': The string-tinged ballad of love is another obvious one. Like` VanDiemen's Land ", there seems to be a bit 'lead out of place, after the" God "and the bombastic" Bullet .. ', Even if the queue extended string makes a good approximation for the album.
So there are some cuts on hold, but the way they are all thrown together to make seemingly random "Rattle and Hum" feel less than the sum of its parts. It does not help that the band po-faced seriousness of the project, a lot of lead and feeling self-conscious, as if trying too U2put on the same pedestal Dylan, the Beatles and the King.
I would have recommended this album, because there are quite a lift to the MIS clumsy steps. But I can easily understand why many critics were confused and disappointed by this, and why U2 decided to shed light on "Achtung Baby."
